I’ve been the Big Island Gooner for a few years now. A couple of weeks back I was talking to my Son in Law Weston about his experience running the Portland Marathon. I was impressed that he was able to accomplish such a feat and decided that I would like to maybe think about doing something a bit less daunting, so I landed on a half marathon. My goal is to train and be ready to run in September. As of the time of this writing, they have not yet set the date for the 2026 run, but I anticipate sometime in September, based on previous dates.
So keep checking back here to see how I’m doing. I plan to post my daily workouts and progress. I encourage you to work with me. I’m an out of shape couch potato who turns 58 in February of 2026. I want you to look at me and think “Well if that idiot can do it, so can I. I’m not sure how this will go. I have a bad back and bad knees. I haven’t exercised regularly in years and when it comes to diet, I act like a feral pig. It’s not going to be easy.
